KYBELLA® contains a substance called deoxycholic acid. This is a naturally occurring substance in the human body that is present in bile acid to absorb fats from food.
VOLUX® XC is a crystal-clear gel that is injected into the jaw to improve jawline definition. It temporarily adds volume to augment the shape and structure of the lower face and results in improved jawline definition in adults over the age of 21. The lidocaine in the gel improves the comfort of the injection by reducing sensitivity to pain.
Approximately 80% of patients obtain a significant improvement in the appearance of their double chin after KYBELLA® treatments. Notably, once the fat under the chin is destroyed by the KYBELLA® injections, it is gone forever and will not come back. Most patients, therefore, do not require any further treatment after completing the series of KYBELLA® treatments. The results of your KYBELLA® treatment are long-lasting. However, if you gain a significant amount of weight, the remaining fat cells can grow, and the appearance of a large double chin can reappear.
You should arrive for your KYBELLA® appointment with a clean face free of any make-up. The procedure itself is pretty straightforward. We will mark the area of the chin with the injection sites. If needed, we can apply a topical anesthetic (numbing cream) or use an ice pack to reduce the discomfort associated with the injections.
KYBELLA® injections are performed with a fine needle at specific locations in the chin area. The locations are decided based on your anatomy, goals, and expectations from the KYBELLA® treatment.
The number of KYBELLA® sessions required to get optimum results varies from person to person; however, most individuals need more than one treatment. We recommend waiting at least 6 weeks between KYBELLA® treatments to make sure the body has cleared out most of the fat cells from the previous treatment
VOLUX® XC lasts up to 1 year, with optimal treatment.
It is not unusual for patients to experience some minor discomfort, redness, swelling, and numbness in the treated area. These symptoms are usually temporary and self-resolving. The recovery time after KYBELLA® is minimal. The exact downtime can vary from patient to patient, but most people return to routine activities quickly.
If you have a major event coming up, it is advisable to plan KYBELLA® treatments well ahead of time to give yourself time to recover.
When performed by a licensed and experienced provider, adverse events after KYBELLA® are rare. However, very rarely, complications such as nerve injury and facial muscle weakness can occur, leading to a crooked smile or problems with swallowing. Most side effects were mild or moderate in nature with duration of 14 days or less—35% of side effects lasted up to 30 days. The most common side effects were temporary reactions at the treatment site, such as tenderness, lumps/bumps, pain, swelling, firmness, bruising, redness, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin-injection procedures, there is a risk of infection.

You may not be deemed a suitable candidate for KYBELLA® if you have an active infection of the chin. Also, women who are pregnant or nursing are advised to wait before getting cosmetic treatments like KYBELLA® since the effects of these treatments on infants have not been studied.
